Every year in Black Rock Desert — the longest-running stress test we could ask for, and the reason our rigging spec looks the way it does.
Black Rock Desert · since 2016
The best tent for Burning Man is the one that's still standing on Sunday. Ours have gone to the playa every year since 2016 — 10 burns of wind, dust, and sun. Here's what that taught us.
Black Rock Desert throws everything at a structure in one week: sustained wind with sudden gusts, whiteout dust storms, alkaline dust that eats cheap materials, and relentless UV. Most shade structures that arrive as a first-timer's experiment leave as scrap. A tensioned-membrane stretch tent is built differently.
A rigid frame takes wind load at its joints — the weak point. A stretch tent's membrane is tensioned across many anchor points, so gusts spread across the whole structure and the fabric flexes and recovers.
Deep ground stakes and load planning matched to loose desert surface. Lowering the windward edge sheds the prevailing wind — a trick straight from our install crew's playa checklist.
The fully waterproof, UV-stable membrane doesn't degrade in alkaline dust, and wipes clean after the event. The same tents come back year after year.

Shade that makes camp
A stretch tent turns a camp from a cluster of structures into a destination — a communal chill space that holds through the afternoon wind window.
Modular by design
Units connect edge-to-edge, so a camp can start with one canopy and grow. It's the same system behind our largest festival build: 16,000 sq ft for 3,000 guests.
Theme camps rent from us out of Los Angeles — tent, playa-appropriate anchoring, and a layout plan sized to your camp. Prefer to own it? Every size is available for purchase with worldwide shipping, starting at $2,000 for the smallest canvas.
A structure that survives sustained wind, dust storms, and sun for a full week. Bedouin-style stretch tents work because the tensioned membrane flexes with gusts instead of fighting them, anchors deep into the playa, and creates real shade. We've deployed ours at Burning Man every year since 2016.
Yes — we rent stretch tents for Burning Man camps from Los Angeles, including anchoring hardware planned for playa conditions. Tell us your camp size and layout and we'll recommend a setup. Camps outside our delivery range can buy a tent with worldwide shipping.
The fabric is a fully waterproof, UV-stable membrane tensioned across many anchor points — wind loads spread across the whole structure instead of concentrating on a frame. Lowering the windward edge sheds gusts, and the fabric wipes clean of alkaline dust after the burn.
For a shared shade/chill space, plan roughly 15–20 sq ft per person. A ~810 sq ft tent covers a small camp of 20–40; larger camps link modular units edge-to-edge — the same system we use to build festival compounds up to 16,000 sq ft.
